The Compass

Overview of BC Hydro Site C Project

Our team has worked with BC Hydro for nearly ten years to deliver visual documentation of the Site C hydroelectric dam.

This is one of British Columbia’s largest infrastructure projects. It needs careful long-term coverage for historical records, milestone tracking, public transparency, and environmental monitoring.

We started with monthly site visits to capture photos and videos. Our role expanded as our work proved valuable. Now, we visit the site two to three times a week.

Today, we focus on aerial drone footage and advanced time-lapse monitoring to provide BC Hydro with complete coverage of each construction phase.

Challenges & Unique Requirements

Our comprehensive approach to visual storytelling gave BC Hydro a reliable media archive for internal reporting, regulatory compliance, public relations, and historical records.

Photography & Videography

  • High-resolution ground and aerial photography for milestone documentation.
  • Cinematic video footage of construction progress, including interviews and site overviews.

Drone & RTK Mapping

  • Advanced drone footage with RTK precision for accurate site mapping and aerial progress tracking.
  • Hyperlapse and timelapse drone shots to visualize long-term development.

Remote Timelapse Systems

  • Strategically placed remote timelapse cameras to capture ongoing progress without daily site visits.
  • Hyperlapse footage for a dynamic view of construction phases.

Live Streaming & Remote Monitoring

  • Real-time video streaming of key milestones for internal stakeholders.
  • Wildlife monitoring & environmental tracking to keep ecological assessments current.

Water flow and spring melt monitoring to aid hydrological assessments and construction safety.
